In Sex, Drugs & Jesus De’Vannon Hubert, a charismatic, brazen and highly articulate United States Air Force veteran recounts his remarkable life story. Battling with homophobia, taboo sex, drug addication, homelessness, HIV and HEP B, Hubert gives a no holds barred narration of his life and path to spiritual redemption. Sex, Drugs & Jesus is exceptional journey from self destruction to resurrection that you’ve never encountered before.
I am truly thankful for the love, support, acceptance and community that has been cultivated since I published this book. It takes courage to share the lightest and darkest parts of ourselves and I appreciate that my vulnerability has inspired some of you to message me your personal struggles and share in those experiences. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sex, Drugs & Jesus is an award winning memoir. Special thanks to the ‘Speak Up Talk Radio's Firebird Book Award’ competition for awarding the book’s accolades

De’Vannon is one of the most interesting people you’ll ever encounter and his book does NOT disappoint. The transparency with which he tells his life story is breathtakingly brave. The stories he shares are not only gripping but insightful into De’Vannon himself, as well as our culture at large. He goes from from gritty moments to others that are achingly sweet with equal finesse.
As someone who has walked in some of the same worlds that De’Vannon describes, I can tell you that he’s 100% REAL.
This book shows the journey of a boy growing into a man under tough circumstances and consistently making choices and taking actions to better himself. Then it chronicles his descent into self-destruction and ultimately his journey to conquer his demons and redefine his faith and pull himself from the ashes.
POWERFUL is a barely adequate word to describe this book. I dare you to read it and not be moved.
Read “Sex, Drugs & Jesus: A Memoir Of Self-Destruction & Resurrection” and it was intense! It’s a fast-paced book with lots of real stories. The author tells about being homeless, in the military, and other stuff. It’s powerful, adventurous, and sometimes sad. It made me think a lot!
Review on Book 1
I seldom read memoirs. But I recall once having read that a memoir should be consider guilty until proven innocent. The impulse to sugar coat our own stories is so great that until the writer writes something unflattering we shou!d not take it seriously. That is not the case here. This author crafts a dark, raw, and unflattering picture of their life. It is compelling and well crafted. I recommend this book to those seeking a blunt and well told life story.
Hear incredibly vulnerable, life altering stories that are woven in the chapters of Sex, Drugs & Jesus. These taboo topics in troubled times will shock and comfort you, and most importantly, show you that you are not alone.
